Swedish Female choir La Cappella at the European Choir Games 2019

European Choir Games 2019

Three times already, the singers of La Capella climbed the winners’ podium at international choir festivals and competitions, for the last time at the final competition of the best choirs at the International Choir Competition and Festival Bad Ischl, Austria 2018, where they achieved the Grand Prize. In summer 2019 the Swedish choir and its conductor Tony Margeta pursue their goal and mission to enter the podium again: The singers will compete in the categories Adult Choirs and Musica Sacra with accompaniment and meet 135 choirs from singing nations across the globe during the Grand Prix of Nations Gothenburg 2019 & 4th European Choir Games.

La Cappella was established in 1986 by Robert Sund in order to enrich the women's choir tradition in Sweden with performances at the highest level. The choir aims to push the envelope for a women's choir as an instrument, shifting genres and is always on the lookout for a new and exciting additions to its diversified repertoire, which ranges from Swedish and international folk music up to church music from several centuries and modern music. Through the years La Cappella has won numerous Swedish and international awards and prizes.

In spring 2014 Tony Margeta, who also works as a choral instructor and music teacher at the renowned Adolf Fredrik's Music School in Stockholm, took over the choir from Karin Eklundh, who led the choir successfully during the past 20 years. In 2016, the choir celebrated its 30th anniversary by, among other activities, arranging a choir festival intended for Swedish female choirs.
