Mountain Top Chorale
INTERKULTUR presents the participating choirs of the World Choir Games 2016
We are pleased to introduce some choirs, which will attend the biggest choral event worldwide: The World Choir Games in Sochi 2016. The following choir, we would like to present, comes from the African city of Lagos, Nigeria.
This group of vibrant middle aged singers started in March, 2013 as a small chamber group of 10 motivated singers and has since then grown to a choir of 28 members. On the occasion of the 1st anniversary in 2014, the Mountain Top Chorale staged a concert where they performed the Chandos Anthem No. 8 "Oh Praise the Lord with one consent" by George Frideric Handel.
"We share a deep love for sacred music by the masters down to our own African Art Songs composed by Nigerian and African composers alike. As Africans we also enjoy performing African Spirituals which links us directly to our roots and African Heritage."
Some performances are accompanied by the famous Nigerian Orchestra "D.K.O. Symphony Orchestra". Together with the Orchestra the choir performed excerpts from "Judas Maccabaeus" and "The Messiah" by George Frideric Handel as well as excerpts from "The Creation" by Franz Joseph Haydn and pieces by Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, the choir’s sponsor and founder of the Pentecostal organization "Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries".
In 2015 the choir participated in the 9th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition in Wernigerode (Germany). Before the Mountain Top Chorale will come to Sochi the choir will compete in the 13th International Choir Competition & Festival Bad Ischl (Austria).
The singers of the Mountain Top Chorale are looking forward to Sochi and to share their love to music with the whole world. They hope to benefit from the intercultural exchange with other choirs and experts.
