INTERKULTUR presents the participating choirs of the World Choir Games

Choir Spotlight

Eleven weeks to go until the biggest international choir competition worldwide will unite singers from all over in Sochi. That also means that there are only eleven weeks left for your competition preparations. Until then we want to introduce the choirs, which are going to present their musicianship in front of the international jury.

The following choir comes from Tilburg, the Netherlands and will compete in the category "Jazz". Fontys Jazz Choir was founded in 2003 by its conductor Hans van den Brand. The choir consists of eleven young ambitious vocalists who are student or alumnus of the Fontys University of Applied Sciences.

The choir specializes itself in performing jazz, pop, gospel and fusion styles, a capella or with band.  Their love to music is also recorded at their first CD with fantastic arrangements of the groups they really admire.

The singers of the choir represented the Fontys University of Fine Arts at the International Vocal Group Festival in 2004. They had the honor having a Master Class from Darmon Meader and Kim Nazarian (New York Voices – USA), Peder Karlsson (Real Group). In January 2010 the Fontys Jazz Choir won the National TV competition "Battle of the Choirs" and proudly carried the title "Best Dutch Choir"  for two years.

In July 2014 the choir was selected to perform in the Champions Competition Pop and Jazz during the World Choir Games in Riga (Latvia). They won two golden medals and a top 3 classification in both categories.

We are pleased to welcome the singers at the World Choir Games in Sochi again!
