The first part of the World Choir Games 2024 concluded this morning with an emotional Awards Ceremony at Spark Arena in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.

After the choirs in The Open Competition received their competition results on the evening of July 13, the choirs competing in The Champions Competition gathered this morning at the Arena to learn their results and celebrate the announcement of a total of 12 Champions of the World Choir Games 2024.

The highest scores in the competitions so far were achieved by the vocal ensemble Ungklang from Denmark, with a total of 96.25 points in the “Youth Choirs” category. They were followed by the Festival Statesmen Chorus from Australia, who scored 95.50 points in the “Sacred Choral Music a cappella” category, and the Diocesan Boys’ School Choir from China/Hong Kong SAR, who achieved 94.38 points in the “Contemporary Music – Equal Voices” category.

The host country, Aotearoa New Zealand, shone in The Open Competition with a win in Category O6 – Vocal Ensembles, achieved by the choir Nota Bene from Wellington, conducted by Shawn Michael Condon.

However, with these Awards Ceremonies, the World Choir Games 2024 are far from over! On Monday, July 15, the World Choir Council will gather for its regular General Conference to discuss the latest developments in the choral scenes from around the world, before the second part of the World Choir Games 2024 will officially open with the Parade of Nations on July 16 in the city center of Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.

This promises to be even more exciting, with new choirs arriving to compete in a wide range of competition categories and sing together in Friendship and Celebration Concerts. As the next highlights attendees can also look forward to a spectacular Matariki concert on July 15, another Celebration Concert titled “A Choral Kaleidoscope” on July 17 featuring top international choirs, and the “Night of Song & Dance” on July 18.
