World Choir Games 2018

Around 80 singers aged between 9 and 15 years representing app. 45 schools – with this combination of different cultural groups the University of Pretoria Jacaranda Children’s Choir (JCC) perfectly represents the spirit of the World Choir Games in Tshwane, South Africa.

The JCC is an internationally acclaimed children’s choir founded in 1978 and has established itself as a national asset, acting as ambassadors for South Africa when travelling nationally and abroad. The JCC belongs to South Africa’s most successful choirs and regularly receives standing ovations with their outstanding performances. Its repertoire includes a wide variety of genres and styles that vary from classical music, jazz and light music to folk music from around the world, including Africa.

According to the JCC its secrets of success are nurturing a strong team spirit, shared values cultivated through friendship, appreciation for music and an exceptional conductor: Christo Burger is one of South Africa’s leading conductors and experts in the field of choral music. He tours with his choirs at home and abroad and with JCC he already brought home gold several times from their trips to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy and Austria.

At the World Choir Games, which take place from July 4-14, 2018, the choir will participate in the category Children’s Choirs and their supporters keep their fingers crossed for another category win like the one they brought home from their tour to Poland, Hungary and Slovenia in 2012.
