Three young scholars from the German Conductor’s Forum performed at the final concert for the German Choral Conductor’s Prize on Saturday, April 9, 2016. In front of a famous jury, among them well-known experts like the jury president Prof. Jörg-Peter Weigele, Dr. Eleonore Büning, Prof. Grete Pedersen und Prof. Hans-Christoph Rademann, they presented a wide range of repertoire from Heinrich Schütz and Johannes Brahms to Ralph Vaughn Williams and Olivier Messiaen.

The finalists Hannes Reich, Lukas Grimm and Christian Meister performed together with one of the most popular professional ensembles in Germany, the RIAS Chamber Choir from Berlin. Also the choir’s voting was part of the final jury decision.

Following the three performances and a short jury session the winner became Hannes Reich, artistic director of the Freiburg Bach Choir, conductor of the Academic Orchestra Freiburg as well as director of the Bosch Symphony Orchestra. Further he already worked with some old acquaintances of INTERKULTUR: Simon Halsey and the Berlin Radio Choir invited him to assist with the internationally successful scenic performance of Brahm’s German Requiem. In the upcoming concert season he will now conduct concerts with the MDR Radio Choir, NDR Choir, Berlin Radio Choir and WDR Radio Choir.

The award includes prize money of 5.000 Euros and was awarded by the jury president as well as the President of the German Music Association (“Deutscher Musikrat”, DMR), Prof. Martin Maria Krüger, among others.
