Sing and enjoy Vienna!

18 choirs from 12 nations join the 31st Franz Schubert Choir Competition

Franz Schubert Choir Competition

Since decades the traditional Franz Schubert Choir Competition attracts choirs from all over the world to Vienna in order to honour the great composer and perform his works – this year from May 30 until June 03, 2018, and already for the fourth time in connection with the choral festival „Sing’n’Joy Vienna“.

18 choirs from 12 nations will participate in the event during the next days and celebrate together a vibrant festival of international choral music. The Franz Schubert Choir Competition with its different competition categories traditionally represents the centrepiece of the event.

The Opening Concert will take place on May 31 at 7:30 pm at the votive church (Votivkirche). Apart from the official welcoming speeches choirs from Vietnam, Norway, Russia and Indonesia will whisk away the audience to far away destinations and present pieces of traditional music from their home countries.

In addition to the competitions three Friendship Concerts will take place during the event, which offer participating choirs the possibility to meet each other, to sing for each other and to present themselves to the local audience.

The first two Friendship Concerts already take place before the official opening on Wednesday, May 30 at 2 pm at the Minorite church (Minoritenkirche) and at 8.30 pm at the Schubert church. A further concert is scheduled for May 31, 2018 at 1 pm at the Minorite church (Minoritenkirche).

Admission to all competitions and friendship concerts is free. The public is cordially welcome!

A detailed overview about the competitions and the festival program in Vienna including all choirs and concerts is listed in the official programme book. It is available at the festival office in the Minorite church (Minoritenplatz 2A, 1010 Vienna) and can also be downloaded here.
