Opening Concert on the Sunny Island

Choir Competition and Festival in Grado begins

Isola del Sole

For the third time already in September INTERKULTUR said: “Opened!” After the choir competitions and festivals in Corfu, Greece and Porec, Croatia earlier this month also the Sunny Island Grado started this year’s choir event.

Four participating choirs from Indonesia, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands went on stage and presented both classical choral literature and traditional pieces from their respective home countries. Especially some charmers from Sweden, the male choir Västgöta Nations Maskör Korgossarna captured the hearts of the (female) audience: During their second piece the singers went down to the audience, selected one of the ladies present each, got on their knees in front of them and fervently sang at them. The audience rewarded this performance with enthusiastic applause.

Also Grado Mayor Dario Raugna attended the concert and addressed a welcome speech to the international participants welcoming them and highlighting the significance of the event for its hosts:

“This important event helps to spread the melodious music in its many forms and encourages encounters and friendships, overcoming cultural, social and language barriers. During the four days of the festival, the music will be heard in every corner of our city and I am sure that the Grado’s people will follow with great interest your performances.”

Until next Sunday choirs from 16 nations will stay in Grado, sing in competitions and Friendship Concerts and take the opportunity of Evaluation Performances and Individual Coachings with international choral experts.

On Saturday, September 29, the best choirs from the competition will once again compete for the Grand Prize. The winner of this competition will be awarded the trophy “Isola del Sole – Grand Prize” endowed with € 1500,-.

Regular updates, photos and videos from the event will be published on the official Facebook page for the event and on instagram.
