The Stellenbosch University Choir

The 1st Place of the World Rankings attends the World Choir Games

The Stellenbosch University Choir from South Africa wants to defend the title in Sochi

World Choir Games 2016

INTERKULTUR is pleased to introduce some choirs, which will attend the biggest choral event worldwide: The World Choir Games in Sochi 2016.

The Stellenbosch University Choir is the oldest and most celebrated choir in South Africa.  Founded by William Morris in 1936, various conductors established the ensemble as an influential South African choir. Since 2003 the choir is conducted by André van der Merwe, who also has worked as juror during many INTERKULTUR competitions.

The Stellenbosch University Choir comprises students from various academic and cultural backgrounds.

The singers perform on the stages around the world and took part on many INTERKULTUR events, including the World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China (2010) and the World Choir Games in Cincinnati (2012). At the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia in 2014 the choir won all three their competition categories, with the highest mark in the history of the competition with 1.260 points.

Currently the choir is ranked number 1 on the Interkultur World Rankings of the top 1000 international choirs.

We are looking forward to welcome the Stellenbosch University Choir at the upcoming World Choir Games 2016 in Sochi and we are curious what result the choir will achieve.
