"The choir festival represents an important cultural highlight which enriches the city of Wernigerode, and exciting and top class cultural days are yet to come. One must simply become part of it, it is a memorable event as I know first-hand."
5th International Conductor‘s Seminar Wernigerode
With Top-Class Choral Experts
This workshop will present top-class choral experts and take place in the week before the 11th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition 2019 in the „colorful city in the Harz region“ Wernigerode, one of Germany’s most beautiful and inspiring small towns.
It is designed for international students, junior conductors, choir assistants and young professionals and represents an extension of INTERKULTUR‘s pedagogical offers.
Choir conducting, teaching and music students of the surrounding conservatories in Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Saxony and Hesse as well as interested choir singers and conductors from these states are explicitly being invited to participate in the seminar.
Active participants have the opportunity to study and rehearse international choral literature intensively with one of Germany’s most famous youth choirs, the Radio Youth Choir Wernigerode, and to present the results during a closing concert. A passive participation as a guest student is also possible.
The Wernigerode Radio Youth Choir was founded in 1951 by Friedrich Krell who also acted as its Artistic Director for 45 years. Today the choir is conducted by Peter Habermann. Due to the continuous work for decades the ensemble developed into an international renowned top ensemble in the field of mixed youth choirs. The distinctive interpretations of German and international songs as well as performances of contemporary choral music became the choir’s trade mark as well as its varied concert repertoire which also includes motets by Schütz and Bach.
Numerous TV and film recordings, about 2.000 radio and record songs and more than 30 records and CDs give proof of the ensemble’s special academic level, which bears the honorary title „Radio Youth Choir„ since 1973. Concert tours e.g. to Japan, Italy, Liechtenstein, the US and Vietnam mark unforgettable highlights in the vita of the ensemble.

Hardly any other German city has so many gorgeous timber-framed buildings that compete for the visitor’s’ attention: the ideal setting for the parade and the opening ceremony as well as further open air events. And the narrow-gauge-railway also turns the discovery of the surroundings into a wonderful and charming experience.
