New plans for international choral gathering in August 2021

Vietnam International Choir Competition

The Vietnam International Choir Competition marks an exceptional highlight in INTERKULTUR’s choral event calendar: A true celebration of the joy of music, singing and friendship surrounded by Vietnam’s legendary atmosphere.

In order to respond to the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers of INTERKULTUR and their local partners in Hoi An, Vietnam have decided to move the 7th edition of the event from April 2021 to August 19-23. The late summer is still pleasant time to travel to Vietnam and the hope is high that the development of the pandemic will allow choral gatherings again later in 2021.

Hoi An offers fantastic conditions to held an international singing event in appropriate safety and hygiene measures: Open Air venues like the Hoi An Theater offers plenty of seat capacities for the Opening and Closing Events, and Hoi An’s Old Town – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is a perfect place for Friendship Concerts under the open sky.

The sought-after workshop with Paul Smith, co-founder of VOCES8, author of The VOCES8 Method and CEO of the VOCES8 Foundation, which was already announced as a special highlight of the 7th Vietnam International Choir Competition will not be missed, but has also been postponed to August.

The event’s highlight, the Hoi An Legendary Night and the Full Moon Festival is also expected to take place during the event dates in August. Thus, the participants can presumably look forward to experience this magical night full of Vietnamese culture, when colorful lanterns are lightened throughout Hoi An’s Old Town and local street food is served everywhere in the city!

The Vietnam International Choir Competition was founded in 2011 as the first-ever international choir competition in Vietnam’s history and since then has developed into one of the most popular INTERKULTUR events.
