With INTERKULTUR to the UNESCO World Heritage

A choir competition including a discovery tour through the historic heritage of the green Island

Corfu International Festival & Choir Competition

One of the most beautiful old towns of Greece, which belongs to the UNESCO world heritage since 2007, is nestled between the Old and New Fortress of Corfu.

During a walk through the narrow streets of the old town one feels immediately well. Around every corner Corfu presents itself in a new slant. The slim constructed multi-storey buildings in Mediterranean style and a lot of clotheslines installed from one house wall to the next define this townscape. Furthermore the buildings provide enough shade from the Greek midday sun.

From the New as well as from the Old Fortress you have a stunning view above the sea and the old town. The most important church of Corfu, the "Agios Spiridonas" – here the relics of the patron saint of the town are preserved – looms over the city's houses because of its high bell tower. You can hardly overlook it by the red roof.

Discover Corfu

Only a few walking minutes away there is the banknote museum located in the Ionian Bank. Beside the everyday business you can learn all about the manufacture of banknotes and coins.

Corfu's Esplanade, a wide place with numerous open-air cafes and restaurants, forms the heart of the old town. Many sightseeing tours and round trips with the horse-drawn carriage start out from here. If there is no sun shining above Corfu, the Old Palace decorated with Doric columns and its exhibitions provides the perfect alternative on bad weather.

Enjoy Corfu

Furthermore, Corfu also has a lot to offer in the area of culinary delights. If you decide for a cosy restaurant a few meters outside the tourist mile can enjoy really good Greek food and goodies at a small price.

A visit to the Faliráki Harbor of Corfu could be a good idea for relaxed evening-hours. Popular as bath place too here you can bring the day to a close with a glass of wine in a dreamlike location at the sea.
