Vienna’s singing!

Sing’n’Joy Vienna in full swing

Franz Schubert Choir Competition

The 31st Franz Schubert Choir Competition and the 4th Sing’n’Joy Vienna choir festival have offially been opened yesterday with an Opening Concert in the Votivkirche. The whole church was filled to capacity with participating singers, performers, visitors, tourists and residents.

Choirs from Vietnam, Norway, Russia and Indonesia presented an extract of their outstanding skills and also brought some pieces from their home countries to Vienna.

Highlight of the Opening was a performance by the Sing’n’Joy Festival Choir consisting of international participants: Kammerkoret Ultima Thule (Norway), Coro Regina Coeli (Philippines), and Vocal Ensemble Fantazia (Russia). They performed together Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 3 in B flat major (D324) – Kyrie and Gloria, conducted by Friedrich Lessky, member of the artistic committee. All singers were well prepared and were obviously satisfied with their performance.

When the event’s artistic director Johan Rooze welcomed all participants in their own native language, there was a happy and proud atmosphere in the church.

And in the end, there was even one choir that couldn’t get enough: Coro Regina Coeli from the Philippines couldn’t leave the stage and pleased the remaining guests in the audience with another performance of “Hallelujah” right after the end of the official concert.

What a wonderful atmosphere in Vienna! See more impressions from the event on Facebook.
