RIGA SINGS – finally again!
14 Choirs from 7 nations are meeting in Riga this week
The atmosphere in Riga’s VEF Cultural Center couldn’t have been better yesterday evening, when the second edition of Riga Sings finally opened after two years of pandemic.
In the Opening concert the participating choirs took the audience on a trip to their home countries, from Estonia to Poland, from Bulgaria to Faroe Islands and back to the host country Latvia. They presented traditional pieces from their homes, and when the Latvian choir Riga Cathedral Choir School Gospel Choir started to make the audience singing and dancing along, the young participants loved to join in.
In their opening speeches, he Head of Riga City Council, Baiba Šmite, and Romāns Vanags, Artistic Director of INTERKULTUR welcomed the international and Latvian singers and were also happy that this international choir competition is finally happening again.
You can watch a recording of the full Opening Cermony here.
Today, the first choirs will compete in their competition categories, perform in Friendship Concerts and will spend a great time together. The best of them will compete once again in the Grand Prize Competition on Saturday afternoon and sing for the Imants Kokars Choral Award.
We wish all choirs good luck in the competitions, much fun in the concerts and a fantastic time together in Riga!
