Opening Day at „Sing’n’Joy Princeton 2017“

Five exciting festival days are lying ahead

Sing'n'Joy Princeton

Starting today 800 singers from four nations will meet in Princeton to sing together at the world renowned Westminster Choir College and to compete in an international choir competition.

The "Sing'n'Joy Princeton" festival office is prepared for the arrival of the choirs today and keeps already a first surprise for them: the Westminster Choir College, the partner of the festival, presents “Scholarship Awards” to all participating choirs including a 200 $ discount on their participation in the “Westminster in Summer” program. This program offers choir singers and conductors vocal and conducting lessons and promises an “extraordinary life-changing, learning experience”. What a nice gesture of the Westminster Choir College towards the international guests!

Even before the event officially starts with an international Opening Concert in the Princeton High School Center of Performing Arts, the day will be already full of choral music. The “Hollis Brookline High School Honors Choir” will be the first to take its chance to sing some pieces from its repertoire in front of the international jury and get valuable advice by the choral experts for their performance in an Evaluation Performance.

Later today the Festival Stage Choir – consisting of four US choirs – comes together for its first rehearsal for the Closing Concert. Together they are going to perform the wonderful pieces “Dirait-on” and “Sure on this Shining Night” by composer Morten Lauridsen, accompanied at the piano by the artist himself and conducted by the Artistic Director of “Sing’n’Joy Princeton”, Romāns Vanags.

In the evening at 8:00 pm, “Sing’n’Joy Princeton 2017” will officially be opened. Participants from the host country United States and from Indonesia, Puerto Rico and China will perform traditional pieces from their homes as well as classical and contemporary choir literature. So the concert presents a deep insight in international and classical vocal music.
