Jazz and Pop on Monterey's stages

International choirs follow the American Way of Life..

Golden State Choral Trophy

During the Indian Summer, from November 20-24 2016, the city of Monterey located in the Golden State California invites choirs from all over the world to the choir festival “Golden State Choral Trophy”. In addition to the unique coastal flair and the impressive natural landscape Monterey offers special participation opportunities focusing on popular music. With this focus the “Golden State Choral Trophy” stands out from many INTERKULTUR events.

The choirs have the chance to sing in 11 different competition categories and to present their musical skills in front of the critical eyes of the experienced jury consisting of Vijay Singh (USA), Cheryl Anderson (USA) and Johan Rooze (Netherlands/Republic of Korea). Besides the competition categories Mixed, Female, Male and Children’s Choirs as well as Folklore there is the opportunity to rock Monterey’s stages in the categories Jazz and Pop. Here the singers will have the unique opportunity to compete either individually as vocal ensemble or as choir.

Furthermore participants will have the chance to attend a jazz workshop led by Prof. Vijay Singh. During his workshop in Monterey he will intensively deal with choral singing in jazz and pop, with regards to repertoire, vocal techniques, rhythms, and stylistic elements.

But the Golden State Choral Trophy Festival in Monterey offers much more: The beauty of Monterey’s coastline. Located between the metropolises San Francisco and Los Angeles, on a peninsula at the Southern end of the Monterey Bay, one can sense the Californian atmosphere at this place more than anywhere else. Like no other US state California is the embodiment of the „American Way of Life“.

Interested choirs can register until July 4 for the festival Golden State Choral Trophy. All information can be found at www.monterey.interkultur.com
