Yesterday evening the competition part of the ISTRAMUSICA choir festival has officially started with the open air Opening Ceremony in Poreč, and also the first competition performances in „Pop“ category are already done.

The host region of the event, Istria, is today one of the most visited tourist destinations in Croatia. So the expectations for the upcoming days in the beautiful Istria regions are high, as it was emphasized by Artistic Director Johan Rooze in his welcome speech to the participants:

„Concerts and competitions here will be a delight for the audience and the singers and I hope you will experience wonderful artistic and emotional moments.“

The Opening Concert was presented by local and international choirs: Mješoviti Pjevački Zbor JOAKIM RAKOVAC and its conductor Đeni Dekleva Radaković from Croatia welcomed the international guests at first by presenting traditional Croatian Folk Songs.

After welcome speeches of the host city and INTERKULTUR, the Russian choir Ak. Khor Musikalnogo Uchilishcha RAM imeni Gnessin went on stage and performed, among others, the Russian evergreen „Kalinka“. They were followed by MÁV Male Choir Szolnok from Hungary and OCARINA YOUTH & CHILDREN’S CHOIR from Finland, conducted by Mia Makaroff. They also brought traditional sounds from their homes on stage.

A highlight of the Opening Ceremony was for sure a Singing Together conducted by Johan Rooze and jury member Tobias Hug. The songs „Fruit Canon“ and „Biribiri Bam“ put everybody in a great mood for the next singing events in the upcoming days. Check the event’s Facebook page to see how everybody got involved!

In the evening already the competitions started with performances in the „Pop“ category and will continue today with more competition categories.
