Festival Opening in the singing city Pohlheim

Singing and Celebrating at the Chorfest in the home of INTERKULTUR

Chorfest Watzenborn-Steinberg

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of two choirs from Hesse – "Harmonie' 1906" and "Sängerkranz 1876" – the little village Pohlheim in Hesse will turn into a lively, sounding choral metropolis. In these days, from June 17-19, 46 national and 3 international choirs will present a wide range of choral music, from Folklore and Sacred Choral Music to popular music and songs in Hessian dialect at the Chorfest Watzenborn-Steinberg.

Tonight the Chorfest will be officially opened with a Gala Concert and name worthy international guests: the Aurin Girl’s Choir (Hungary), Staccato Coro Úniversitario (Mexico) and the Gentlemen Singers (Czech Republic). The three choirs will present a varied program including folklore songs, sacred choral music and popular arrangements. The Gala Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Volkshalle Watzenborn-Steinberg. Tickets are available at the office box.

The anniversary program includes a national choir competition organized independently by the two choirs. The competition will take place on Saturday all day in the Volkshalle and in the protestant church in Watzenborn-Steinberg. 46 national choirs will present their musical skills in altogether eight competition categories in front of a five-member jury – consisting of Prof. Klaus-Jürgen Etzold, Willi Becker, Veronika Bauer, Werner Jung and Branko Stark. The competition results will be announced on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the Party Tent in front of the Volkshalle.

Following the Award Ceremony the anniversary choirs and INTEKRULTUR invite all singers as well as choral friend from all over Hesse to a Choir Party. With a lot of singing and relaxed atmosphere here, the successes will be celebrated and the intercultural exchange between choirs encouraged.

After many competition concerts and the choir party a workshop with Fred Sjöberg, INTERKULTUR Artistic Director, will take place on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. in the Volkshalle. According to his personal motto "Enjoy singing and have fun while making music with friends" the participating choirs will discover their own voice and will start a voice experiment by-oneself.
