Who or what is your greatest inspiration in life?

My husband Deon and daughter Annerike is my greatest inspiration in life!

What would you be doing today, if you were not in choral music?

I would still be a musician and maybe trying out other genres. (Maybe orchestra or piano).

When did you last sing?

At least 10 years ago because I unfortunately damaged my vocal chords

What is the best (and funniest) story to tell from your choral life?

During a first time eisteddfod with a Primary School Choir in Cape Town, I had this elderly lady (actually already semi-retired) whom I INHERITED as an accompanist. My choir was motivated and focused – stood ready on stage to start singing, together with a violinist and percussionist. When I looked to my left – no accompanist. I had to tell the adjudicators and audience to please be patient as I had to go look for my accompanist. There she was in the foyer – drinking coffee at a little table, watching all the people and absolutely no idea that we were already on stage. I had to pick up her handbag and music and accompany her to the piano while trying to get her in the rigth mindset and also not to be nervous. Luckily everything turned out well for every-one. After this event she decided to finally retire for the best!

Which song never fails to move you?

Any version of O HOLY NIGHT by Adolph Adam

With whom would you like to sing a duet once in your life?

My husband Deon and Jonas Kaufman

What is the greatest piece of choral literature that has ever been written?

Any choral work of Johannes Brahms

Acting as adjudicator at choir competitions, what is your main focus of evaluation?

My main focus of evaluation is being true to music and listening to the uniqueness of each and every choral sound!

What is your personal advice to choirs/conductors competing at the World Choir Games?

Go on stage to enjoy and experience wonderful music in order to involve the audience.

What’s the most useless talent you have?

Needlework/Knitting
