World Choir Games 2018

Today offers a wide variety of performances and competitions to choose from and it will be a tough decision for choral music lovers which performances to join.

A special highlight, category Musica Contemporanea, takes place at 15:30 and 19:30 at the Musaion. It’s claim to fame? Choirs have to perform one world premiere of a choral work which gives the audience the rare opportunity to experience 8 world premieres in 1 concert.

Rather in need for more speed? Then have a go for Pop Choirs at the Opera Theatre (State Theatre) at 14:00: 7 choirs from 5 nations and 3 continents will perform electrifying songs by Bruno Mars, Rammstein, Michael Jackson and many others. Amongst them is the World Choir Games 2016 defending champion Nizhny Novgorod State University Choir from Russia.

If you are in a more solemn mood devote yourself to C21 Spiritual at St Alban’s Cathedral at 15:30 and 19:40 which features ecclesial songs such as Lux aeterna, Gloria or Regina coeli of 10 nations in 1 category. The winner of the Champions title 2012, The Aeolians of Oakwood University, will also be present and try snatch at gold for the US again.

The last Celebration Concert of the World Choir Games 2018 is not to be missed: At 19:30 at NG Universiteitsoord ensembles from Cuba, Russia, the next World Choir Games host country Belgium and of course, South Africa, represented by the Stellenbosch University Choir, will inspire the audience with their stellar performance.
