Making memories for a lifetime

First days of the Grand Prix of Nations & 4th European Choir Games

European Choir Games 2019

The first two days in Gothenburg, Sweden have passed and were filled with many emotions so far. The live TV show Eurovision Choir and the Opening Ceremony of the Grand Prix of Nations & 4th European Choir Games initiated the event on Saturday. Top ensembles from across Europe fought the first choral battle and put the audience in the right mood for the coming days. Melodies by Abba and Avicii, performed by the mass choir, spread throughout the hall, which cheered the individual performances.

This emotional mood continued the following day, August 4: The first competition categories were held at different stages in the city and attracted different groups of visitors to the performances, which today showed Youth Choirs, Folklore a cappella, Adult Choirs and Musica Sacra with accompaniment. All three competition levels - Open Competition, Champions Competition and Gran Prix of Nations - were represented. A workshop with John Rutter and Friendship Concerts also completed the day musically, with choral sounds being heard throughout the city and even in buses and trains.

Today was all about the Grand Prix Competitions and the Friendship Concerts, of which six each took place. Whether in the University Hall, the Scandic Crown Hotel or the Domkyrkan - sounds from the categories Foklore, Musica Sacra, Gospel and many more could be heard all over the city. Tonight is one of the highlights of the event: The special concert Sweden A Cappella illuminates the Swedish choral culture in all its many facets and brings the fascination of this choral style closer to visitors from all over the world.
