Grand Prix of Nations & European Choir Games to be opened

Gothenburg welcomes 171 choirs and 6300 participants from 47 nations

Following Graz/ Austria 2013, Magdeburg/ Germany 2015 and Riga/ Latvia 2017, it’s now the turn of the Swedish city of Gothenburg to host the next edition of the Grand Prix of Nations & European Choir Games. The opening of the event will take place during the live TV show Eurovision Choir, which is broadcasted in 11 different European nations at the Partille Arena on August 03, 2019.

In the course of the show the ceremonious entrance of the flags, representing the participating nations, will take place and pave the way for the new edition of the European Choir Games. The Mayor of Gothenburg, Anneli Rhedin, afterwards welcomes audience, guests and singers and Günter Titsch, President of INTERKULTUR, will also address the singers from all over the world. Furthermore, the INTERKULTUR prize for the winner of the Eurovision Choir contest is being presented: The new Eurovision Choir 2019 wins a free participation to the World Choir Games 2020 in Flanders, Belgium.

In addition, John Rutter’s “Look at the World”, a piece of music about the environment, which was written to mark the 70th anniversary of the Council for the Protection of Rural England, will be performed. Afterwards the anthem of the European Choir Games, “We can fly”, written by the Swedish composer Susanna Lindmark, will resound and mark the official beginning of this event.
