Getting to know music from Asia to Argentina

Workshops at the World Choir Games

World Choir Games 2016

The World Choir Games 2016 are about to start in just a few days. Along with competitions in 29 categories and Friendship Concerts at beautiful spots at the inner city of Sochi there will be workshops taking place at all competition days. Choirs will have the chance to learn all about choral music in China, Philippines, in Latvia, Australia, South Africa or Argentina and get to know different choir practices and rehearsal techniques.

For example on July 14 Felix Nassi from the African state of Benin will teach choirs the African way of choral singing, which is typically a combination of singing and dancing: "Some African dances and music imitate the movements and the noise produced by domestic and wild animals. In this workshop you will learn five short songs and dance movements which illustrate the aforementioned imitations of the animals in African singing tradition."

Also promising sounds Matthew Wright’s workshop “Sing from your soul!”. Wright is the conductor of Barnsley Youth Choir, winner of the Grand Prix of Nations 2015, which is famous for its emotional and touching way to perform.

Workshops from July 7 – 9 will take place in Hall "Chayka", workshops from July 13-15 will happen in the Concert Hall in the Hotel „Zhemchuzhina“. Tickets can be purchased 1 hour before it starts directly at the respective venue. All workshops can be found in the official Event Guide (.pdf, 2.9 MB)
