365 days to go until the World Choir Games 2023

Online and offline events in Korea and abroad to celebrate the final 1-Year Countdown

World Choir Games 2023

From July 3, 2022 it’s exactly one year to go until the 12th World Choir Games Gangneung 2023 will finally open in the South Korean host city Gangneung. This event will not only be celebrated in the host city itself, but also internationally with several online events as well as a special offer and surprises to all the choirs around the world that can’t wait anymore to finally meet again at the world’s largest international choir competition, which is also known as the Olympics of Choral Music!

Exactly one year before the event, we would like to take the opportunity to celebrate together with our friends around the world the kick-off of a wonderful event in Korea in summer 2023. We have planned numerous activities in the coming days to increase our common anticipation, to celebrate international choral music as a special gift to the interested participating choirs. Watch out especially for our "10% Countdown Special" and more on all our Social Media channels!

Read on to learn all about the highlights of the schedule in the upcoming days:

July 3, 2022, 14:00 h (CEST): “World Peace Singers” – Peace Concert
International Online Event

We kick off the countdown days with a “World Peace Singers” Peace Concert; an online concert with great contributions from 6 top choirs around the world. Watch it on INTERKULTUR TV, Facebook, and YouTube and other international media channels.

Dr. Michael Barrett-Berg (South Africa), Maria Guinand (Venezuela), Memli Kelmendi (Kosovo), Dr. Maria-Emma Meligopoulou (Greece), Brady Allred (USA), Dr. Ryan Goessl (USA/Republic of Korea) and Romāns Vanags (Latvia) have participated in this project with their choirs, arranging beautiful songs and videos. The Artistic Director of the Peace Concert is Fred Sjöberg, Artistic Director of INTERKULTUR and Vice President of the World Choir Council.

This concert is a journey through the different continents to find the different approaches in music in connection with peace.

July 4, 2022, ab 9:00 h (CEST): Countdown Event in Gangneung
Live Event in the Republic of Korea

This day will be packed with LIVE celebration activities in the host city Gangneung. Here is a rough overview:

    • 09:00 h (CEST) Press conference at Lankai Beach Resort
    • 10:00 h (CEST) 80 Korean choir directors are invited to be appointed as WCG advisors.
    • 12:30 h (CEST) Celebration Event at Gyeongpo Beach Central Square with flag presentation, lighting of the Choir Olympic Flame and unveiling a World Choir Games Countdown Clock.

July 8, 2022, 14:00 h (CEST) Talkshow "Greetings to Gangneung" 
Online Event for Chinese speaking choirs and conductors

This live meeting with World Choir Games Champion Choirs, conductors and international jurors is hosted by INTERKULTUR China via Tencent meeting. It will happen as a live event in Chinese, and a recording is to be shown on the World Choir Games WeChat and international media channels. If you are interested to join, please join the World Choir Games Social Media group on WeChat. The password to join the event will be released on July 8 directly.

July 10, 2022, 7:00 h (CEST): "Hello Korea" – World Choir Games Information Program 
Online Event for Korean speaking choirs and conductors

This program, produced for the Korean choirs in their native language, introduces the World Choir Games and its participation opportunities, and outlines the highlights of the event. World Choir Games Artistic Director Johan Rooze will participate in the presentation and explain how to participate in the Games and how to prepare for it in the best way. He will be joined by Bernard Krüger, conductor of the Kearsney College Choir from South Africa, which already participated in the World Choir Games several times and even became Champion four times in recent years. The presentation will be shown on our Korean and other international media channels.

July 13, 2022, 14:00 h (CEST): “Partner City Friendship Concert”
International Online Event with special focus on South Korea and China

The 1-Year Countdown to the 12th World Choir Games Gangneung 2023 coincides with the celebrations of the 30-year Diplomatic Relationship between China and Republic of Korea. A Friendship Concert between Gangneung and its Chinese partner city Jia Xing will take place on this occasion It will be published on the different Social Media accounts in China, like the World Choir Games WeChat channels, INTERKULTUR.TV and other international media channels.

Of course, we will follow these days appropriately on our Social Media accounts, for example with “11 reasons to travel to Gangneung” for the World Choir Games and additional videos to increase your excitement for the Games as much as possible.
