Make Your Choir TikTok Famous (It’s Easier Than You Think)

Top strategies for making your choir’s TikToks more visible

About Choir Singing

Social media has become the most popular place for choirs to promote themselves. And in 2024, TikTok stands out as the best place to reach younger audiences. On top of that, it’s the best place to make a name for yourself — because the platform will spread your content around even if you don’t have an enormous audience.

It also doesn’t hurt that great singing does well on the platform.

So, if your choir is looking to get big on social media, TikTok is probably the best place to start.

Here are some tips to help your choir shine on TikTok.

1. Understand Your Audience (They’re Young)

Not all great video content is great TikTok content. That’s because the app has a particular audience.

First and foremost, younger people make up the vast majority of users, though the app is slowly diversifying.

This means you’ll want to tailor your content to appeal to younger viewers. For choirs, this might mean mixing traditional choral pieces with contemporary hits — especially ones that are popular on the app at any given time.

2. Create Engaging Content (It’s a Mix)

While it’s a good idea to focus on one kind of content at first, be sure to experiment with the wide range of options you have as a choir that makes videos.

These include:

  • Performance Clips: Share short clips of your choir's performances. Focus on high-energy pieces that can capture attention quickly. Solos are probably the most valuable of these, also moments with lots of choreography.
  • Behind-the-scenes: Users want to feel connected. And nothing does that better than giving them an inside look at the laughter and tears that go into rehearsal, travel, and performance.
  • Trends and Challenges: TikTok is always awash with challenges and trends. Adapt popular trends to fit your choir's style, taking advantage to boost your profile.
  • Educational Content: When questions arise, Gen Z and Gen Alpha are turning to TikTok (not Google) for answers. Satisfy their curiosity and reap the rewards of views, follows, and fame.

3. Use Hashtags (But Use Them Wisely)

Hashtags are essential for increasing the discoverability of your content. But you want to use them responsibly. Putting in a bunch of popular but irrelevant hashtags will damage your account in the long run.

Instead, use a mix of popular and niche hashtags to reach a wider audience. Relevant hashtags for choirs might include #Choir, #ChoralMusic, #Singing, #Music, and specific hashtags related to particular events, songs, genres, trends, etc.

4. Collaborate with Other Creators (the Right Ones)

Collaborations can significantly boost your visibility. Partner with other TikTok creators who have a similar audience as you. These can be musicians, influencers, dancers, local celebrities, etc. This cross-promotion can introduce your choir to new followers who are likely to love what you do.

5. Optimize Posting Times (And Be Consistent!)

Timing your post is key. Remember, on a platform as popular as TikTok, there is no shortage of new videos going up. To really get ahead, you need to be in the right place at the right time.

How do you do this?

You’ll need to analyze your audience's activity patterns and experiment with different posting times to find what works best for your choir. But there are still some basic best practices, like:

  • Consistent schedule
  • Post at peak times, like evenings and weekends

6. Engage with Your Audience (It Isn’t One Way)

TikTok isn’t just a video platform. It’s a social media platform. It works best when you reply to comments, ask the audience questions, and engage with the people watching your videos.

The main ways to do this are:

  • Comment and like
  • Host Q&A sessions
  • Encourage followers to do Duets and Stitches with your videos

7. Promote Your Events (Turn Follows into Ticket Sales)

Events are great focal points of TikTok content. Think of all the things you can create in the lead-up and aftermath of a big performance: behind-the-scenes preparations, countdowns, and highlights from your performances.

These all build excitement and encourage followers to attend upcoming events.

Getting Your Choir Seen (and Heard)

These seven strategies will make getting your choir TikTok famous much easier. While nothing is certain, these simple but important considerations will put your best foot forward.
