The first online choir competition of INTERKULTUR was an amazing success. A total of 128 virtual choir videos from 44 countries were submitted to participate in the categories “Choirs A Cappella” and “Choirs with Accompaniment”.

The jury, which consisted of INTERKULTUR Artistic Directors Prof. Dr. Ralf Eisenbeiß (Germany) and Johan Rooze (Netherlands/South Korea), the Local Artistic Director of the World Choir Games in Flanders 2021, Maarten Van Ingelgem, the World Choir Games Project Director Jelena Dannhauer (Germany) and INTERKULTUR’s Project Director for Project Development, Francesco Leonardi (Italy), reviewed each video carefully and evaluated them according to different criteria, like “Choir Quality”, “Production”, and “Creativity”.

“I was impressed and also surprised by the high quality and creativity the choirs have achieved in their submissions. You can see in many of them that they put all their heart and soul into the production of their virtual choir video and came up with a fantastic result. We all in the jury really enjoyed watching all those videos and I am convinced that this will not have been the last virtual competition of INTERKULTUR,” says Prof. Dr. Ralf Eisenbeiß.

After an intense discussion the members of the jury finally decided to give the first-ever “INTERKULTUR Video Award” to the following choirs:

Category “Choirs A Cappella”
Chor der Technischen Universität Wien, Austria

with „Some Nights“ by Nate Ruess, arr. Andy Black

Category „Choirs With Accompaniment“

with “A Million Dreams” by Benj Pasek, arr. James Bassingthwaighte

All entries of the INTERKULTUR Video Award in the categories “Choirs A Cappella” and “Choirs with Accompaniment” can still be watched at interkultur.tv/videoaward. The videos were presented on the video platform INTERKULTUR.TV as part of the “Virtual Choir Games”, which were held from July 5-15, 2020 through INTERKULTUR’s Social Media Channels.
