2022 World Choir Games and beyond:

INTERKULTUR launch host city bidding process to find next hosts

Latest news

The host city bidding process for the 2022 World Choir Games and beyond launches on April 23, 2019.

In recognition of increased interest from potential hosts, and the increasing value of the World Choir Games, INTERKULTUR have chosen to partner with London based agency The Sports Consultancy, widely recognized as leaders in host city procurement processes for a range of major sporting and entertainment properties, to run a structured bid process for the first time. Together, they have worked to enhance the event model and create an innovative and collaborative bid process to find the next hosts for this prestigious event. The bidding process will launch on Tuesday, April 23, when The Sports Consultancy invites targeted cities to express their interest.

The World Choir Games, launched in 2000 and hosted biennially, is the pinnacle of international competition for amateur choral singers and attracts over 25,000 vocalists from more than 70 countries around the world.

Attending the two-week festival along with family and friends, the event has delivered an economic impact of $50M for previous hosts which include Sochi, Russia; Cincinnati, USA and Shaoxing, China. For these cities, staging the World Choir Games has enabled them to showcase their artistic venues and the vibrant life of their city, creating a stage on which to share their culture with a young, global audience and promote inclusivity within their community.

Commenting on the appointment Günter Titsch, President INTERKULTUR said:

“I am excited that the time has come to launch the bidding process for the next editions of the World Choir Games; it represents a unique opportunity for potential hosts to bid for a cultural festival that travels around the world. As demand to host the event grows, we are delighted to be working with The Sports Consultancy and draw on their expertise in this area. Having been introduced to the team through their work with Flanders in preparing their winning bid to host the 2020 World Choir Games we were immediately impressed by their professional yet practical approach and understanding of the key criteria necessary to secure the event.”

Matt Wilson, Director of Consulting, The Sports Consultancy added:

"We are absolutely thrilled to be working with INTERKULTUR on what is known as the Olympic Games of choral music and demonstrating how our core competencies and approach of combining our consulting, commercial and legal expertise, can be as effective in a non-sporting context.”
