Young Voices Mittenaar

Local choirs singing at the choir competition in the home region of INTERKULTUR

Chorfest Watzenborn-Steinberg

In a few weeks the Chorfest Watzenborn-Steinberg (17.-19. Juni) will take place in the small town Pohlheim near Gießen. Besides three international choirs performing during the Opening Concert of the festival, altogether 46 choirs from Germany will compete in a national competition.

One of the participating choirs comes from Mittenaar in Hesse/Germany. The Young Voices Mittenaar was founded in 2000 by an initiative of local and established choirs as well as the local community Mittenaar. The aim of the foundation was to attract more young singers for the regional choral scene. In order to react the typical recruitment problems of many German choirs the group has set up the "Notenschlüssel Mittenaar" in 2006, a choir for children of age 6 and up.

During the last 16 years the choir has been very successful. Jochen Stankewitz has been the leader of the group since 14 years. With a modern and varied repertoire including pop and rock music as well as gospels and spirituals the young voices regularly impress their audience. The choir has now been established in the Hessian choral scene through special concerts like a performance with the well-known a cappella ensemble Maybebop, concerts combining choral and rock elements together with the Young Symphonic Orchestra Wetzlar and numerous participations in the Hessian choir competition.

INTERKULTUR is looking forward to welcoming the "Young Voices Mittenaar" in the singing city Pohlheim!
