Berlin Radio Choir

Together we will make the world sing

The Berlin Radio Choir and INTERKULTUR pursue a shared aim

Grand Prix of Nations

The Berlin Radio Choir does not only belong to the world's most outstanding choirs but is also a partner of currently two INTERKULTUR events: the Sing Along Concert in Vienna 2016 and the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017. Together with this top-class choir INTERKULTUR offers the choirs of the world the possibility to gather special experiences and know-how and to learn from a world-beating ensemble during workshops.

The Berlin Radio Choir was founded in 1925 and celebrated its 90th anniversary last year. Around 60 concerts per year, CD recordings and performances at international festivals give proof of the choir's artistic sophistication. Three Grammy Awards document the quality of its recordings.

Since its foundation the choir was being led and formed by conductors such as Helmut Koch, Dietrich Knothe, Robin Gritton and Simon Halsey. At the beginning of season 2015/16 Gijs Leenaars took over the position as a head conductor and artistic director. Simon Halsey, who will also be conducting the Sing Along Concert in Vienna, will be connected to the Berlin Radio Choir as a honorary conductor and guest conductor.

Its diversified repertoire and its distinctive musical precision and variety make this professional choir a perfect partner for renowned orchestras such as the "Vienna Philharmonic", the "New York Philharmonic", the "Berliner Philharmoniker", the "Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin" and the "Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin". Famous conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann or Daniel Barenboim have already cooperated with this choir.

Just like INTERKULTUR the Berlin Radio Choir wants to get as many people as possible into singing as joint singing keeps healthy, stimulates peace and supports intercultural exchanges. The choir presents interdisciplinary projects with dance, theatre, song and multimedia elements as an experience for all senses and puts the focus on current social issues. Thereby the choir wants to spark people's interest for musical diversity.

The Berlin Radio Choir wants to animate people to sing with its sing along projects for different groups of people – the big Sing Along Concert at the "Berliner Philharmonie" and the "Konzerthaus Wien", the "Fest der ChorKulturen", which also includes the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017, and a sing along concert for pupils from Berlin. By the means of sustainable pedagogical projects such as the educational initiative "SING!" and the "International Master Class Berlin" the Berlin Radio Choir supports the music education at schools and universities.

It is an honor for INTERKULTUR to cooperate with the Berlin Radio Choir in the context of the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017. During the "Fest of ChorKulturen" the Berlin Radio Choir offers a workshop for individual singers who do not take part in the competitions of the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017. The workshop is being accompanied by the Berlin Radio Choir who will also participate in the performances of the works to be rehearsed by Joseph Rheinberger and Heinrich Schütz. Nicolas Fink will take over the artistic direction of the workshop. Details will be published soon. We are also delighted to welcoming the Berlin Radio Choir as guest choir in our Opening and Closing Concerts of the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017.

All information regarding the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017 is available at the event website or at Facebook.
