Kalamata in Greece welcomes choirs of all nations and religions to sing in the “Land of the Gods” from October 7-11, 2021. The INTERKULTUR team is also looking forward to resounding choral music from all parts of the world after a silent Corona time and welcomes the singers to an extraordinary Opening Concert in historical surroundings: Messene, in ancient times one of the most powerful Greek cities ever until Roman times, opens the gates of its ancient amphitheater for a special spiritual choral experience for the participants of the INTERKULTUR festival.

To express hopes, wishes, prayers and thanks in music has been a need of people since the beginning of time. In all cultures people believe in superior powers, spirits, gods or in the might of nature and their ability to affect life and history. At this unique concert on the occasion of the Opening of the Kalamata International Choir Competition and Festival 2021, choirs have the opportunity to present their individual beliefs in an ancient setting with their unique choral music which is characteristic for their country.
