New Event in Italy: Along the tracks of St. Francis

VOICES FOR PEACE meet in Assisi

VOICES FOR PEACE

INTERKULTUR adds a new destination to its map of choral events: From April 19-23, 2017 choirs from all over the world are invited to join an international choir festival and competition in the name of peace in Assisi, a well-known place close to Umbria’s history-charged capital Perugia.

Assisi is the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi, founder of the men's Order of Friars Minor (Franciscan Order). The city is famous for its Basilica San Francesco, where Saint Francis is buried. He is the name giver to the so called Prayer of Saint Francis, also known as the Peace Prayer or under the headline “Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace”. Along these lines choirs will meet at Saint Francis of Assisi’s birthplace, sing together in harmony, in a peaceful competition and spread the message of a placid living together in the world.

One of the event’s highlight will be the Opening Mass in the Portiuncula in Santa Maria degli Angeli, which is the place of origin of the Franciscan Order.

Italy, the beautiful country in the south of Europe has already been the venue for various INTERKULTUR events and is constantly inspiring ensembles from all over the world to go on very special concert tours. In addition to its long musical tradition, its fascinating architecture and its unsurpassed gastronomy, there are this remarkable vitality and joy of living that make this country a perfect place for the realization of unforgettable musical projects.

VOICES FOR PEACE in Assisi joins the ranks of fabulous musical experiences in Italy that INTERKULTUR regularly offers in Grado and Jesolo already. More information about participation opportunities and registration deadlines can be found here.
