Monterey: A choral and natural paradise

INTERKULTUR reveals the highlights of the Californian flora and fauna

Golden State Choral Trophy

From November 20-24, 2016 choirs from all over the world will gather in the beautiful coastal city Monterey, south of San Francisco, to sing together for the Golden State Choral Trophy. The participants of the festival have both the opportunity to compete with international choirs and to get to know the loveliness of Monterey's coast first hand: The stunning peninsula represents a breath-taking composition of land, sea and sky and is considered as one of the most beauteous destinations in the world.

Already today we tell you some highlights and tips for our stay in Monterey:

Numerous of nature and game reserves are located around Monterey. The California Sea Otter Game Refuge south of Monterey belongs to them and can be directly reached via the Pacific Highway. Here the visitors can watch the sea otters and sea lions in free nature while lounging and splashing. Numerous of boat trips bring you much further out to the sea. With a little luck you can experience humpback whales, orcas and other marine animals in their natural habitat up close.

The coasts of Monterey

Back on land, Monterey's beaches are waiting to be discovered. Besides sandy dunes the San Carlos Beach in Monterey offers also grass covered and stony coastal corners. Here a walk over hill and dale would not be bored. Visitors, who prefer to feel the sand between their toes, should come to the Monterey Municipal Beach – a dream of a sandy beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The legendary 17-Mile Drive

Another way to discover the breathtaking nature can conveniently be done by the car: The ride on the 17-Mile Drive is almost a must, when you are traveling in or around Monterey. Along beaches and cliffs the route offers a total of 21 stops, where the view is particularly impressive. So you get an enchanting view over the beaches, bays and the sea conveniently from your car.

And at locations with sun, beaches and sea, surfers and sailors cannot be far. Perhaps you will also get the California fever when you are guests at the Golden State Choral Trophy event. INTERKULTUR is already excited about many choral concerts in this unique destination.
