Kalamata welcomes the international guests

2nd choir competition is in full swing, its 3rd edition highly anticipated

With a big Opening Concert the 2nd edition of the International Choir Competition & Festival Kalamata started yesterday evening in the Tenta Sports Hall.

The concert began with traditional Greek dancing by the group Lykeion Ton Ellinidon Kalamatas, which was followed by a wonderful performance of the Children’s Choir of the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata. The children performed two pieces – one of those was a warm welcome in different languages. Their singing and dancing was heart-melting and received a big hand by the audience.

The international choirs Raduga Moscow (Russia), Da Capo Female Choir (Sweden) wowed the audience with their performances, which were almost perfect. Just like every choir that came on stage this evening, they had brought some traditional music from their homes and gave a great insight into what to expect during the upcoming festival days.

In their welcome speeches both Kalamata Mayor Panagiotis Ε. Nikas and INTERKULTUR’s Artistic Director Romāns Vanags expressed their happiness about this event and announced a third sequel edition, which is now highly anticipated by choirs and organizers!

As the final highlight of the concert all choirs concluded the evening with singing together „Sto perijiali to krifo“ by Mikis Theodorakis, arranged by INTERKULTUR’s late Honorary President Christian Ljunggren. This singing together was conducted by Ivan Matzaris, director of the choirs Melifono and Neaniki Melifono, that formed the supporting choir on stage.
