John P. Stevens Choir ready to conquer 2nd Sing'n'Joy Princeton

Opening Ceremony with last year’s prize winning choir

Sing'n'Joy Princeton

2017 proved to be a memorable year for the John P. Stevens High School Choir from Edison, USA: During INTERKULTUR’s premiere edition of Sing'n'Joy Princeton the JPS A Cappella Choir won the competition for Sacred Choral Music and the JPS Chamber Choir won the category Mixed Choir as well as the Grand Prize by defeating all category winners of the overall event.

In 2019 they will enter the stage to defend their title and their successes: Therefore their performance will kick off the 2nd Sing'n'Joy Princeton 2019, which takes place from February 14-18, 2019. During the past two years the JPS Choir maintained their sophisticated choral standards and even added some more trophies to their medal collection, such as several first place awards as well as two adjudicator's awards at the Heritage Worldstrides Festival in the USA. But prizes are not the main reason to return, as conductor Matthew Lee mentions: „The students are particularly excited about sharing the stage with choirs from all of the world once again.“ And the singers are already in the starting blocks: „We are excited to present a program in a wide variety of styles and languages, ranging from Basque to Mandarin Chinese to Latvian as well as English and Haitian Creole.“

The home of the renowned Westminster Choir College, located South of New York, is looking forward to welcome choir from all over the world. Apart from the competitions such as the Sing'n'Joy Princeton 2019 Grand Prize the get-together of singers takes the center stage: Friendship Concerts, Master Classes with international choral experts, performances of the ensembles of the Westminster Choir College - to be continued!

Matthew Lee summarizes one of the main ideas of the event: „It is my hope (…) that the students and audience members alike can gain a worldview of acceptance of diversity as well as awareness of different cultures through choral music.“

You still have the chance to participate in this Ivy League event by registering until October 01, 2018. Impressions about last year’s edition and details of the event are available here or on Facebook!
