Julius Schmid: Schubertiade (1897)

Historical Schubertiade meets Social Media

Virtual celebration of Schubert's works

Franz Schubert Choir Competition

Already during his lifetime Franz Schubert had numerous followers who liked to come together for performances of his compositions in private settings, e.g. at house concerts. These events were called "Schubertiade", and at the first of these events Franz Schubert himself played the piano while baritones sang his songs.

The current situation would make a traditional Schubertiade impossible - but to lift the spirits of choir and Schubert fans until we can all hopefully meet again in November, we celebrate Schubert's music together via social media: For in order to shorten the long time of waiting for the popular Franz Schubert Choir Competition in Vienna/Austria, which will take place from November 11-15, 2020, INTERKULTUR has created its own virtual Schubertiade. On Facebook, recordings of choirs performing Schubert's works will be posted regularly.

Your choir has also sung works by Schubert? Then send us your recordings through our new website INTERKULTUR.TV!

The virtual Schubertiade on Facebook can be found here.
