Cheer the choirs at RIGA SINGS!

Successful choral story continues in 2019

RIGA SINGS

From May 1-5, 2019 Riga will once again host a great choral event: RIGA SINGS - International Choir Competition & Imants Kokars Choral Award leads choirs once again to the city of the World Choir Games 2014 and the European Choir Games 2017.

Wednesday, May 1, not only starts a new month but also the Opening Event at the Riga Congress Center at 19:30, featuring choirs from 5 different nations: Latvia, Japan, Norway, Russia and Sweden will showcase their choral traditions on the stages of Riga Sings. The choirs are looking forward to welcoming locals and international guests alike with their varied repertoires.

Thursday, May 2, begins with three competitions in one go: 11 Children’s Choirs, Youth Choirs of Equal Voices and Youth Choirs of Mixed Voices will compete for their category win and the applause of the expectant audience. Enjoy a special treat for your ears at the University of Latvia from 14:00-18:00. If you are favoring more dignified choral sound, join the first part of the Competition Sacred Choral Music a cappella at St Peter’s Church from 15:00-17:30. And if you can’t get enough of choral music, take a walk to the concert hall Ave Sol at 19:30 and listen to Friendship Concerts of choirs from four different nations.

Friday, May 3, takes choral music lovers to six exciting and most different competitions: From 14:30-17:30 the University of Latvia will host Mixed Choirs, Chamber Choirs of equal voices, Chamber Choirs of mixed voices as well as Equal Voices (Male and Female Choirs). At the same time Sacred Choral Music a cappella enters the second round at St Peter’s Church from 14:30-17:00. And even the evening is full of music: Mixed Choirs from Latvia, Norway, Sweden and Russia will compete at University of Latvia from 19:30-21:30.

Saturday, May 4, will end on a high note: Eye candy welcomes the audience to the category Folklore at the University of Latvia from 11:00-13:30 and top-class choirs will climb into the choral ring for the Grand Prize Competition "Imants Kokars Choral Award" at University of Latvia at 15:00. All participating choirs will afterwards be honored at the Award Ceremony & Closing Event at the Riga Congress Center at 19:30.
