Guiyang Female Choir participates in Folkore category

Lanna Int. Choir Competition

Guiyang Female Choir is one of the choirs already registered for INTERKULTUR’s first ever choral competition in Thailand: the 1st Lanna Int. Choir Competition, which is going to be held in Chiang Mai from October 19 - 23, 2016. The choir from China has been founded on the basis of Guiyang Choir, a 80 members group aged 20 to 60 years that belongs to Guiyang Art Gallery.

Guiyang Choir has won many prizes nationally and internationally during past years, for example a Gold Medal in the Folklore Category of World Choir Games Graz Austria in 2008 and a Bronze Prize in the 14th CCTV Youth Singers Competition. Besides, Guiyang Choir was invited to perform in Austria in one of the world’s most beautiful concert hall with outstanding acoustics on the occasion of its 200-year Anniversary Concerts of Vienna Musikverein.

Guiyang Choir has rich experience in interpreting choral works and focus on national characteristics and a cappella. The ensemble recorded and published the a cappella album “Songs in Guizhou”, which is full of national characteristics and distinctive regional style of Guizhou Province in South Western China.

Guiyang Female Choir has announced to participate in Folklore Category of the 1st Lanna International Choir Competition in Chiang Mai performing two traditional Chinese pieces: one is showing the yearning for a better life of Guizhou minority, the other one shows the development of marriage and marriage customs of the local minority.
