"Let's sing in Riga 2017!"
INTERKULTUR comes back to the European Capital of Culture 2014 with another big choral event
“Let’s sing in Riga 2017!” they’re saying at INTERKULTUR again.
Following the tremendous success of the World Choir Games 2014 that attracted 460 choirs and roughly 27,000 participants from 73 nations there will be held another international choral festival in the Latvian capital in summer 2017: The “Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017” and the “3rd European Choir Games” from July 16 to 23, 2017 invite singers from all over the world again to the beautiful city at the Daugava river.
After the agreement on this major event between Vice Mayor Andris Ameriks and INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch in May 2015, Titsch stated in Riga:
“After the World Choir Games 2014 countless singers from all over the world reported us enthusiastically on the beauty and hospitality of the city of Riga. It was our wish and it’s a big joy for us to invite them again to this special place with its deeply entrenched choral tradition. We’re looking forward to the well-established collaboration with our partners in Riga and a sonorous reunion in summer 2017!”
The World Choir Games 2014 in Riga were the largest international choir competition in the event’s history – including the unforgettable highlight, the Great Celebration Concert in Mežaparks, where 10,000 Latvian and 5,000 international singers performed “Oh Happy Day” together and caused a storm of enthusiasm of 25,000 spectators.
On the occasion of the 2nd European Choir Games & Grand Prix of Nations from July 5 to 12, 2015 the city of Riga – a delegation headed by Vice Mayor Ameriks – will be present in Magdeburg and introduce itself as the next host city of the Grand Prix of Nations and the European Choir Games.
