Lagos City Chorale was founded in February 1988 by the late Senator Lere Adesina and Music Director and Conductor Sir Emeka Nwokedi, who is currently representative of Nigeria the World Choir Council.

The group had its premiere concert in Eko Hotel Lagos in April 1988 and has been an embodiment of excellence in choral music giving very high standard performances in Lagos, Abuja and other major cities in Nigeria since then.

The group has participated in international choral festivals and competitions in China, USA, Austria, Dubai, Latvia, Germany and Russia, and has won a total 17 Gold and Silver medals - from these international competitions.

In 2015, at the European Choir Games in Magdeburg Germany, the choir was presented with an Award of Honor for continued contribution to the ideal of international and peace initiative through choral music as world choirs sing together.

Also in 2016, LCC contested in the Champions Competition of the 9th World Choir Games in Sochi, Russia and won Gold and Silver Medals.

The World Choir Games 2018 mark Lagos City Chorale’s fourth participation in this prestigious and largest international choir competition in the world – for the first time on their home continent, in Africa.
