Voces y melodías internacionales bajo el sol heleno
El certamen internacional de coros de INTERKULTUR en Grecia tiene como anfitriona a la romántica ciudad al sur del Peloponeso, Kalamata.
Llena de vida, sosegada e idílica, Kalamata demuestra de una forma sorprendente que estos calificativos no tienen por qué ser contradictorios: callejuelas sinuosas, el centro histórico y la Iglesia de los Santos Apóstoles del siglo XII son símbolos distintivos de su paisaje urbano hasta hoy. La unión de mar, montañas, viñas y olivos hace de Grecia un lugar maravilloso para que los cantantes de todo el mundo se sientan a gusto.
Cantar en Kalamata es cantar en tierra de dioses. Este certamen combina las ventajas de un concurso internacional de coros con las posibilidades de organizar conciertos en una ciudad caracterizada por su variedad cultural.
La parte del concurso está dividida en diferentes categorías según la dificultad, elenco y género musical, y el festival permite que diferentes naciones se reúnan de manera más informal con el maravilloso paisaje del Sur de Europa de fondo.

INTERKULTUR le ofrece a cada coro la posibilidad de elegir o combinar las categorías competitivas y no-competitivas. Aquí está la esquema de lo que se puede eligir:

Coros que hayan recibido un premio en su categoría pueden participar en la competición por el Premio Grande. El jurado se reserva el derecho de admitir otros coros. El ganador de esta competición recibirá el Premio Coral de Kalamata 2017.
- Programa: Dos piezas de elección libre, presentadas a capella. No pueden ser las mismas obras que el coro ya presentó en la competición. Las partituras deben ser confirmadas por el comité artístico.
- Tiempo cantado real: Máximo de 8 minutos.
Actuación evaluable
Para los coros que NO participen en ningún concurso
- Tres (3) piezas de elección libre
- Actuación frente a un panel de jurado internacional que darán la respuesta artística y pedagógica positiva e inmediata para que el coro mejore.
- Los coros reciben un certificado de participación, evaluación de la actuación y algunas recomendaciones para la participación en los eventos futuros de INTERKULTUR

- Previamente a los concursos de los coros pueden inscribirse para presentar su programa a un jurado de prestigio interancional

- Aprovechando esta oportunidad los coros reciben comentarios y consejos sobre su interpretación, presentación y afinación.
- Los resultados de esta ronda no influyen sobre la evaluación en los concursos.

- Un experto coral de prestigio internacional le da una nueva aportación al coro para estimular ideas artísticas y la orientación interpretativa
- Para un ensayo efectivo el coro debe preparar la pieza de antemano

Bad Ischl y las comunidades alrededores de Kalamata son lugares perfectos para los conciertos. Los coros tienen la oportunidad de inscribirse para actuaciones conjuntas con otros coros internacionales. Las actuaciones estarán en lugares famosos, en las iglesias y también, si las condiciones meteorológicas lo permiten, en los parques y las plazas.
Se pide a los coros que preparen un programa de aproximadamente 20 minutos, el cual debe ser confirmado por el comité artístico. El programa del concierto debe ser preferentemente “a- capella” (o con sus propios instrumentos). Un piano o un piano eléctrico estarían disponibles bajo la petición.
Tenga en cuenta que una gran parte de las actuaciones serán las al aire libre. Si las condiciones meteorológicas no lo permiten, existe la posibilidad de la cancelación de los conciertos. Los organizadores se esforzarán por encontrar otro sitio donde los coros puedan actuar, pero no están obligados a esto.
También existe la posibilidad de participar solo en los conciertos de la amistad.

Kalamata Dance Megaron

Address: Artemidos 121 (Junction Artemidos & Klada Street), 24134 Kalamata
The Kalamata Dance Megaron was constructed with funding mainly from the European Union and the Greek State, in order to house the activities of the Kalamata International Dance Centre, during the International Dance Festival, which takes place every year in July, as well as cultural events that take place throughout the year. It first opened its doors in July 2013. Every year it welcomes the dance world’s most prestigious names and, since 2015, every second year, choirs from around the world.
Kalamata Dance Megaron is a modern, multi functional hall. It has a main hall with 650 seats and a small hall with 200 seats, as well a massive foyer on the ground floor and another one on the upper floor.

Amphitheatre Theo Angelopoulos

Address: 95 Aristomenous Street, 24131 Kalamata
Named after the well-known film director, scriptwriter and film producer Theo Angelopoulos (1935-2012), who was originally from Messinia (the wider area, of which Kalamata is the capital), this amphitheatre, built to host seminars, concerts and workshops, opened in 2006. It is centrally located, close to the Municipal Theatre, on the main shopping street, and just a few minutes’ walk from the Kalamata Dance Megaron and the Holy Taxiarches Church. With its 250 seats and good acoustic, it is a suitable place for the competition and evaluation performances.

Holy Taxiarches Church

Address: Taxiarchon Square - Vas. Georgiou & Asklipiou Street, 24100 Kalamata
The Holy Taxiarches Church is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. The church is located in Kalamata city center. Its construction begun in 1938 and it was inaugurated in 1956. Its architectural style is hellenobyzantine. Dimitrios Kentakas, a famous craftsman, painted its murals in byzantine style.

Tenta Sports Hall

Address: Junction of Sfakianaki Street & Anatoliko Kentro, 24100 Kalamata
The Award Ceremony will be held in Tenta Sports Hall. Tenta Sports Hall is actually a huge tent, used for various sports events. With a total of 2000 seats, it can host all participants of the Kalamata International Choir Competition & Festival. A big stage is constructed especially for the official events of the choir competition, but there is still enough space for the participants to sing and dance together and celebrate the results.

Prof. Dr. Ralf Eisenbeiß
Ralf Eisenbeiß was born in 1952 in Zeulenroda. After his secondary school examination he studied pedagogy, German philology and musical education. He received his PhD in 1979 at the Pedagogical University of Zwickau. From 1978 to 1981, he studied choir and orchestra conducting at the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Weimar.
Ralf Eisenbeiß was working as the director of the choral department at the Pedagogical University in Zwickau and appointed professor for choir conducting and choral singing in 1987. He was conductor of the renowned Pedagogical University Zwickau Choir. With his choir he performed a wide repertoire of compositions for a cappella choirs and with orchestra, too. Under his direction the choir won numerous prizes at national and international choir competitions.
Ralf Eisenbeiß was lecturer at the central seminar for choral conductors in Berlin and organized numerous workshops himself. He often appears as guest conductor at home and abroad. Since almost 30 years he works as artistic director of INTERKULTUR. Ralf Eisenbeiß is founder of the Int. Robert Schumann Choir Competition in Zwickau and one of the founders of the World Choir Games. Since 1992 he was responsible for more than 150 international competitions of INTERKULTUR in Germany, Italy, Korea, Indonesia, China, Austria, Spain, USA and other countries. Ralf Eisenbeiß is very often invited as a juror in national and other international choir competitions all over the world.

Romāns Vanags
Romāns Vanags is a graduate of Emils Darzins' specialized music college and of the Department of Choir and Orchestra Conducting of Jazeps Vitols' Latvian State Conservatory in Riga. He has received a diploma in choir conducting and in music pedagogy and additionally studied orchestra conducting.
In 2003, Vanags received the master's degree in music. His professional work is focused on conducting and pedagogy. He served as the Chief Conductor of the teachers' choir "Vanema" for a long time and since 1990 as the principal Conductor of the Latvian University female choir "Minjona". Furthermore he was Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of Jāzeps Mediņš Music School boys` choir and worked with the Jazeps Medins Music College Symphonic Orchestra. From 1987 thru 1994, Vanags was employed at the Latvian Music Academy in Riga as professor of choir conducting and as the conductor of the academy choir. From 2005 to 2012 Vanags was the head of the Conducting Department.
Vanags has been appointed as one of the chief conductors of the All Latvian Song Celebration and the Youth Song Festival. Since 2004, Vanags is the chairman of the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO on the Latvian Song and Dance Festival, and since 2008, he is also a member of the World Choir Council. In 2008 Romāns Vanags received the highest civil decoration in Latvia – the Three Star Order. Romāns Vanags was a member of the artistic committee of the 8th World Choir Games in Riga and belongs since 2014 to the Artistic Board of INTERKULTUR.

Stathis Giftakis
Stathis Giftakis was born in Kalamata, Greece in 1967. He studied piano with Dora Bakopoulou and composition with Theodore Antoniou.
His compositions have been successfully performed in Greece and abroad in Turkey, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, United States and Russia among others by "ALEA III" in Boston, the "Greek Ensemble of Contemporary Music", "Orchestra of Colors", "Arcadian Woodwind Quintet" and the "Artefacts Ensemble".
Works of him have been selected for workshops of contemporary music and have been awarded in several competitions. Many of his works have been commissioned by and performed at festivals such as the "Athens Greek Festival", "Volos Music Theatre Festival", "Kalamata Dance Festival", "Greece in Milan", "Aegena Music Festival", "Mediterranean music festival Istanbul" and the "Festival of Sacred Music of Patmos".
Stathis Giftakis is a Member of the Greek Composers' Union Board and was appointed as the Director of Kalamata Municipal Conservatory from 2003 to 2009 and then again from September 2015 where he teaches piano and music theory.

Dr. Maria-Emma Meligopoulou
Maria Emma Meligopoulou holds a Master Degree in Choral Conducting from Boston University CFA and a PhD from Ionian University Music Department. She has also studied Law at Aristotle University.
Currently, she is adjunct Lecturer at Macedonia University, where she teaches choral conducting techniques and directs University Choirs. She is also Professor of Choral Conducting at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki. She has performed in Greece, Europe (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, UK), Asia (Israel, Turkey, Singapore, China, Japan), Africa (Egypt, South Africa), America (USA, Canada).
As Choral Director she has been several times recipient of First Prizes with her own Choir “Ss. Cyril & Methodios Choir”, among them the Moscow Sounds Festival, INTERKULTUR Festivals, Loto Quebec Festival (Canada), etc.
She is councilmember of the World Choir Games and she is on demand as lecturer, guest conductor and adjudicator in international symposiums, festivals and workshops in Europe, USA and Asia. In 1992 she founded the Ss. Cyril & Methodios Children’s and Youth Choir, the largest choral organization in Northern Greece with over 250 singers in five departments.
She is author of the textbook Introduction to the Art of Choral Praxis (2011) 3rd Edition in 2013 and the Music Edition: 42 Choral Works for Equal Voices by Greek Composers (2014), both available by Nakas-Papagregoriou Editions, Athens.

Giovanni Acciai (Italy)
Unanimously recognized as one of the greatest interpreters of the Renaissance and Baroque vocal repertoire, Giovanni Acciai studied choral music, choir conducting organ and organ composition at the Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan, and took his master degree in musicology at Pavia University.
He was conductor of the Chamber Choir and of the Symphonic Choir of the Italian Broadcast and of the Corale Universitaria of Turin. Presently, he is the conductor and artistic director of the vocal and instrumental ensembles “I Solisti del Madrigale”, and “Nova ars cantandi”, with which he carries out an intense concert and recording activity; he has published several articles and reviews on early music, musicological essays, as well as recordings of unreleased works for the publishers Antes, Stradivarius, Sarx, Unda maris, Tactus and Archiv Deutsches Grammophon.
His latest CD production with Nova Ars Cantandi, the "Armonici entusiasmi di Davide" by Giovanni Battista Bassani, has been nominated for the International Classic Music Award as the best CD of the year 2017 in the category Early Music.
His CD "Contrafacta" was named album of the month for the magazines Classic Voice and Amadeus as well as his CD "Responsoria" by Leonardo Leo for the music critic review Musica. He teaches musical history and early music semiography at the Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan, moreover he is the artistic director of the International choir competitions of Quartiano, Grado, Perugia and Lucca. He is regularly invited as an international jury member and jury president in most renewed choir competitions; he is sought after as a lecturer at conferences of musicology and asked to hold masterclasses for choral conducting in Italy and abroad.
For his high-ranking international artistical achievements in 1991, he was appointed honorary member of the American Choral Directors Associations (ACDA). Giovanni Acciai was a member in the panel of the International juries at the Choir Olympics as well as the World Choir Games and since 2004 he is an active member and official representative for Italy in the World Choir Games International World Choir Council. Since 2014, he is artistic director of the Accademia di Musica Antica of Milan and since 2005 active member of the Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne” (REMA) of Versailles.

Søren Birch (Denmark)
Søren Birch studied choral and orchestra conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. After his graduation he has made further studies in choral conducting in Sweden and in orchestral conducting in the Czech Republic.He is the founder and conductor of the chamber choir Coro Misto, Aalborg and of Midtjysk Kammerkor (Central Jutland Chamber Choir). He has an extensive concert activity, and several cd’s with a comprehensive a cappella repertoire has been published.He is vocal coach for the Symphony Orchestra of Aalborg. With this and other orchestras he has performed a great deal of the repertoire for choir and orchestra.Søren Birch has conducted the Danish Radio Choir and the Swedish Radio Choir.
Alongside his conducting career Søren Birch is active as a composer. He is a representative of the “Nordic style”, and has published several of his works on Music Sales Classical.For many years Søren Birch has been an associate professor the Royal Academy of Music and he has an extensive activity as an instructor of choral events and conducting courses in Denmark.

Peter Habermann (Germany)
Peter Habermann received his first musical education as a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor. This was followed by a course of Vocal Studies in Dresden which he passed with a First Class Honours degree to be a singing teacher. Since 1984, he has been teaching at the Landesgymnasium für Musik Wernigerode. His scope of work covers both the field of vocal training and the choral education of this institution’s students.
For many years, he acted as a Deputy Artistic Director of the Rundfunkjugendchor Wernigerode with Friedrich Krell. Later, he led the institution’s Children Choir with great success before he became Artistic Director of the Rundfunkjugendchor in 1996, a responsibility that he held until 2004 and has been holding again from 2008 until today.
His work with this internationally renowned ensemble has been rewarded with numerous prizes, and has resulted in many CD recordings as well as concert tours both at home and abroad.
In 2003, he founded the Wernigerode Chamber Choir, a project choir comprising former Rundfunkjugendchor members which he led until 2010. He is also committed to amateur music: for 10 years, he conducted the men’s choir of the village Drübeck. Peter Habermann is an active singer, speaker and juror for INTERKULTUR events and the German Choral Contest.

Gulmira Kuttybadamova (Kazakhstan)
Gulmira Kuttybadamova graduated from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory in Almaty in 1994.
Already starting during her studies until 1998 she was choirmaster of the State Choral Chapel. Subsequently, from 1998 until 2011 she was head of the Choral Conducting Department at Kazakh National University of Arts. There she co-developed the educational program of the Choir Conducting Department. Moreover Kuttybadamova initiated and organized the Choir Festival "Astana - on the wings of song" in 2000, 2008 and 2010 and organized a number of workshops for students and choirmasters.
Gulmira Kuttybadamova is professor at the Kazakh National University of Arts and founder and art director of the "Samgau" Chamber Choir which is affiliated to the university and the Children's Choir "Eligai".
Further she is the art director and chief conductor of the "State Philharmonic Chamber Choir of Astana".
Kuttybadamova is a Laureate of the State Scholarship (2011, 2012) and was appointed "Honored Culture Worker" for the "Excellence in education" by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Under her direction choirs have received top prizes at different international competitions.
Gulmira Kuttybadamova is regularly invited to judge at national and international choir competitions all over the world.

Miltos Logiadis (Greece)
Miltos Logiadis studied theory and piano at the National Conservatory, where he was awarded "First Prize and Distinction for Outstanding Performance". He continued his studies with a scholarship from the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation at the Munich Academy of Music where he was awarded diplomas for choral and orchestral conducting, as well as a Meisterklasse Diploma, with the highest grade ever granted by the Academy.
On completion of his studies, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the Munich Academy of Music, conducting the Madrigal Chorus. He went on to become conductor of the Opera of Ulm.
In 1992, he returned to Greece and became the permanent conductor of the Orchestra of Colours, a position he holds until today. He has performed numerous concerts in Greece and abroad and has made numerous recordings which include works by Greek and foreign composers.
Logiadis has conducted many leading orchestras, among them the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Danish Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
For the Olympic Games of Athens in 2004, he recorded the majority of the works of music presented during the opening and closing ceremonies with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Greek National Symphony Orchestra.
At the present time, he is the artistic director of Megaron-The Athens Concert Hall and professor of Conducting at the Department of Music of the Ionio University.

Rosie Mastrosavva (Greece)
Rosie Mastrosavva has studied piano, monody and advanced theory of music in Athens National Conservatoire. She attended classes of choir conducting with A. Kontogeorgiou and M. Logiadis. She continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and completed her Master in Choir Conducting with distinction. She attended masterclasses with maestros E. Ericsson, H. Rilling, Er. Ortner and Fr. Bernius.
Mastrosavva has conducted several choirs in Germany and Greece, among them Melismachor, Vokalkreis Cantabile, Singtonics, Amasingers, Students’ Choir of University of the Aegean, Con Anima Vocal Ensemble and Children’s Choir of E.R.T’s Third Radio Program. Under her direction the Children’s Choir of the Musical Ensembles of Municipality of Athens gained a gold medal at the 5th Choir Olympics in Graz, Austria, 2008.
She has taught in choral seminars and at the Pedagogic Department of Primary Education, University of the Aegean, Rhodes. 2008 Mastrosavva has founded Rosarte Children’s Choir, which she directs since. Rosarte has received twice a gold medal at the Choir Olympics, 2008 in Graz, Austria and 2014 in Riga, Latvia and participates regularly in concerts of symphony orchestras and professional choirs of Greece. In December 2016 Rosarte was awarded an honorary distinction by the Academy of Athens - the highest scientific and cultural establishment of Greece, for supreme cultural and artistic achievement.

DESTINO
Kalamata es un típico puerto marítimo del sur de Europa. Su población ronda los 70.000 habitantes. Así que representa el centro económico del sur de Peloponeso, forma un centro comercial y turístico muy atractivo. Kalamata se halla sobre el Mar Jónico, hacia el centro del golfo de Mesenia. Su extensa playa de arena puede ser alcanzada con mayor facilidad. El centro de la ciudad encantador les invita a los visitantes pasar tiempo en sus callejones estrechos, ir de compras a tiendas bonitas o comer en típicas tabernas griegas. Uno de los puntos destacados de la vida cultural de Kalamata es el anual festival del verano cyos conciertos y actuaciones tienen lugar en el teatro municipal en el castillo histórico de Kalamata.

Kalamata International Airport (KLX) está a 11 kilómetros del centro de Kalamata. Varias líneas aéreas realizan vuelos regulares a KLX: Aegean Airlines, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, easy Jet, Ryanair, Lufthansa, NIKI.
