Sweden at the World Choir Games 2018

Looking forward to the Grand Prix of Nations 2019 & 4th European Choir Games in Gothenburg.

World Choir Games 2018

To get a little taste of the Grand Prix of Nations Gothenburg 2019 & 4th European Choir Games you can hear the Swedish chamber choir Petri Sångare from Malmö at the World Choir Games in Tshwane this week. The choir was founded in 2010 and is conducted by Alexander Einarsson. Beneath many concerts in Malmö, Southern Sweden and Copenhagen the choir could already gather international experience at competitions and concert tours in e.g. Hungary, France and Poland. Furthermore, it took part in a live concert of the Danish Radio with the Malmö Symphonic Orchestra.

The repertoire of the choir is diverse and includes pieces from all musical epochs and styles. The choir performs classical compositions from Brahms, Mendelssohn, Nystroem, Poulenc and Schütz as well as contemporary music from composers like Gjeilo, Lauridsen and Sandström.

But Petri Sångarde is not limited to a cappella music: Great choral klassics like “Magnificat” by C. P. E Bach or MacMillan’s “Seven Last Words from the Cross” were also already performed by the choir. Petri Sångare will perform in categories C15 – Musica Sacra a cappella and C18 – Musica Contemporanea. In category C18 they will perform “Tempelklockan” by Andrea Tarrodi – a world premiere!

With approximately 600 000 singers, choir singing is one of Sweden’s most popular movements and the country is thus a perfect location for the Grand Prix of Nations & 4th European Choir Games. The event will take place from August, 3-10 in Gothemburg, a 400 years old seaport located on the Swedish west coast. With 540,000 inhabitants it is the second largest city in Sweden and characterized by international style, local creativity and a natural, relaxed charm. The abundance of culture, entertainment and outdoor activities as well as the city’s spectacular surroundings, closeness to the sea and the stunning archipelago guarantee a whole new event experience.
