COUNCIL TALK – A new way to connect

First international magazine for and about the World Choir Council

World Choir Council

2020 was a difficult year, but also full of new exciting challenges and creativity. Along with many international online projects organized by INTERKULTUR, also the World Choir Council met for the first time virtually – in one global general meeting and furthermore in six regional meetings.

The World Choir Council became very active in 2020 and even got closer together and strengthened its international network. On January 29 a next big step launched in connection with the World Choir Council: COUNCIL TALK, a new digital magazine for and from the World Choir Council members, was released for the first time.

The exchange of information, the presentation of choirs and choral work from all corners of the world and the sharing of experiences are central elements of the work of the World Choir Council, and the new semiannual COUNCIL TALK magazine now provides another tool for this. With a mixture of news, articles and guest features, the magazine offers a colorful collection of information.

In addition, the new digital magazine provides an overview of INTERKULTUR's various activities in 2020, a year full of new challenges, breaking new grounds and taking on new projects: From Virtual Choir Games, INTERKULTUR's first online choir competition, own Virtual Choir productions to interviews with renowned personalities about the state of the choral scene in different countries, including Russian choral legend Vladimir Minin, Tim Sharp, former Executive Director of ACDA (USA) and Li Peizhi, President of the Chinese Choral Federation.

The first edition of the magazine contains reports about the choral scene from different corners of the world. Aarne Saluveer (council member from Estonia) speaks in an interview about his pioneer activities in Estonia during the pandemic, Tian XiaoBao (council member from China) gives an insight into the beginning and development of Chinese choral music in the 20th century, and there is an interesting journey through 20 years of World Choir Games. Furthermore, renowned personalities have their say on the situation of the choral scene in various countries, including Russian choral legend Vladimir Minin, as well as Tim Sharp, former Executive Director of ACDA (USA) and member of the Advisory Board of the World Choir Council, and Li Peizhi, President of the Chinese Choral Federation.

What is more, the new digital magazine features an overview of the different activities of INTERKULTUR in 2020; a year full of new challenges, breaking new grounds and taking on new projects: new formats developed by INTERKULTUR, helped  choirs from all over the world to connect, support each other and continue to work together despite the pandemic. An important step for the future, when finally again real meetings will be possible and new friendships will emerge from this virtual connection!

The magazine concludes with news from the world of INTERKULTUR and from the World Choir Council directly: New members introduce themselves, deceased members are once again specially honored and also the newly appointed Honorary Artistic Presidents of INTERKULTUR – Prof. Hak-Won Yoon (South Korea) and Prof. Dr. Ralf Eisenbeiß (Germany) - find their place in the COUNCIL TALK.

The next issue of COUNCIL TALK will be published in August this year.
