INTERKULTUR mourns for Elfa Secioria
On January 8, 2011, the famous Indonesian choir director Elfa Secioria died at the age of 51 after a
serious illness.
Elfa Secioria was born on Febuary 20, 1959 in Garut, West Java (Indonesia). He has been making music since his youth and internationally he has made a name for himself as an outstanding jazz and pop interpreter and especially as a jazz pianist. In addition he was a deeply committed choir director, teacher with a sense of mission and initiator of music schools in Indonesia.
He toured with his “Elfa’s Singers” throughout many countries and was able to win countless prizes. As a teacher he encouraged thousands of Indonesian children and youths to sing, established 15 Elfa’s Music schools nationwide and engaged more than 100 teachers to educate systematically and with care young talents as solo and choir singers. Indonesia has lost a very special man and a great musician, his family a loving father.
Elfa Secioria with his choirs was part of many INTERKULTUR events as a choir director and, especially at almost all World Choir Games, he reached the Champions award in the respective category. Besides he played an important role as initiator and organizer, as in implementing the 1st Asian Choir Games in Jakarta/Indonesia in 2007.
