The origins of the Linz Resolution 2000

The socio-cultural workshop on July 14th and 15th 2000 set a new type of accent on the arrangement of the symposium. The main components of this symposium were cultural-political, political viewpoints and financial political questions regarding choir music. Leading representatives of choir music presented their organizations and demonstrated in short statements their own experiences between their organization and their government as well as with the public. The number of these short lectures showed that, regarding many points within choir music, there were surely beneficial distinctions worldwide but on the other hand there were also pressing common problems.

The content of these lectures were discussed and summarized in a resolution on the morning of the second day. The event was led by Prof. Eskil Hemberg who was the former long-time President of the International Music Council of the UNESCO and present President of the International Federation for Choral Music. The opening lecture was held by Guy Huot, General Secretary of the International Music Council of the UNESCO. On the afternoon, the resolution was handed over to the representatives of the International Music Council by Prof. Hemberg and President Titsch. A press conference and TV broadcast flanked this important step in choir music, a project which took place for the first time and was repeated in the following years.
