The International Guangzhou Choral Symposium on children and youth is the first symposium of its kind and will take place during the last days of the festival in Guangzhou. Conductors, individual singers and choirs are welcome to take part – whether or not they have taken part in the championships. The participants can enjoy panel discussions with internationally renowned experts on children and youth choir music, lectures on pedagogical, scientific and artistic aspects of the young voice and workshops with different types of children and youth ensembles from many parts of the world.

The symposium will focus on and illustrate different aspects of children and youth choir singing. It will try to give a worldwide view of this subject taking its starting point in the immense Chinese activities in this area. Children and youth choirs are flourishing in China, not least in the big city of Guangzhou, where the local choirs have won a worldwide recognition. Several international top choirs taking part in the Xinghai festival will also be featured as demonstration choirs. The symposium will both focus on the artistic aspects – repertoire, interpretation, style – and the pedagogical aspect – the education of singers, the education of music teachers and conductors, the role of choral activities in schools, colleges and universities.

Choirs who want to take part will have the possibility to sing together with other choirs in workshops under well known conductors.
