First World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults

For the first time there will be the World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults. It will take place in Graz/Austria from July 10 - 17, 2011. This was announced by INTERKULTUR. According to the organization which arranges the event together with the city of Graz at the River Mur and the State of Styria, the first World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults will be of universal dimensions. Choirs from all continents will be expected. They can perform and achieve awards in a total of 14 categories. Within the worldwide choir community Graz is a magnet. Here in 2008 the World Choir Games took place with actives and visitors from 93 nations. It was the 5th release of the world biggest choir competition. Since 2000 it has been organized by INTERKULTUR every two years with different partner cities.

In parallel with the World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults the Grand Prix of Choral Music will be taking place in Graz. This event contains eight categories. It’s a platform for choirs of all age groups. The choirs which will have performed successfully at the Championships for Youth and Young Adults will get the opportunity to take part in the Grand Prix of Choral Music.

INTERKULTUR has been connecting countries to choral music for twenty years. The World Choir Games, the biggest INTERKULTUR choir competition, took place in Graz in July 2008.
