Birthday greetings to Sweden
INTERKULTUR wishes a Happy 70th Birthday
”Hjärtliga gratulationer till födelsedagen!” Today Christian Ljunggren will be hearing this greeting from many voices. Ljunggren, Swedish choir conductor, composer, arranger and Artistic Director for INTERKULTUR celebrates his 70th birthday. During his long lasting and still ongoing creative period for choral music he’s enjoying an excellent reputation also in the international choral world.
Christian Ljunggren is former President of the Swedish Choir Directors Association and the Federation of Swedish Choir Associations KÖRSAM.
Also from 1998 - 1999 he was Secretary General of the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM) and main organizer of the IFCM World Symposium in 1990 and of many conventions, workshops and festivals in Sweden and abroad.
In 1965 he founded the Adolf Fredriks Madrigalkör that he still conducts, since 1974 he has also been directing the Nicolai Chamber Choir in Stockholm. His work as producer and program director at the Swedish channel P2 shaped the musical life not only in Sweden but also in Ireland and USA amongst others. Since the year 2001 he’s Artistic Director for INTERKULTUR and he’s in charge of organizing and conducting pedagogical programs.

Christian Ljunggren was born on January 30, 1942 in Stockholm, Sweden. He studied musicology, theology and philosophy at the University of Uppsala as well as music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He’s living with his wife in Tyresö near Stockholm. Apart from choral music and conducting his heart is beating for humorous and intelligent cultural programs in small theatres in his home country.
