Folkloristic choral music from Turkey

Internationally successful Nilüfer Polyphonic Choir competes in the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017

Grand Prix of Nations

Colorful choral dresses, traditional songs, dances and choreographies from the home country: these are the highlights of the competition category "Folklore". That’s also why it belongs to the most popular categories at INTERKULTUR events worldwide. At the 2nd European Choir Games in Magdeburg in 2015 the concerts offered a variety for the ears as well as for the eyes. Do you remember the concert in the Johannis Church Magdeburg?

One of these choirs performing in the video is the Nilüfer Polyphonic Choir from Turkey. The singers will also compete in the "Folklore" category at the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017 and will present music and dances from their homeland. Most of the singers are students or graduates of different music schools.

Under the direction of Zeynep Göknur Yildiz, a lecturer at the Institute of Music Education at the University of Uludağ, the choir presents a wide repertoire of choral music of the Renaissance and of the present in Turkey and abroad. The main goal is to make works of Turkish composers accessible to the international choral scene.

Since its foundation in 2006, the choir took part in various national and international choral festivals and competitions such as in Magdeburg or at the Canta al mar Festival Coral Internacional in Calella 2014. We are delighted to present the Nilüfer Polyphonic Choir this year at the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017 and are curious about the songs they will present to us there.
