Dedicated to numerous tasks

More than a choir - Chorodia Lykeiou Ton Ellinidon Kalamatas

Int. Choir Competition & Festival Kalamata

Taking part in a choir competition is a huge task for singers and conductors alike – all the more if the choir members do not focus on singing alone, but are also part of a cultural organization that features 16 branches throughout the world.

The choir Chorodia Lykeiou Ton Ellinidon Kalamatas is part of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women which aims at the preservation of Greek traditions and customs, the research in the field of folklore dance, music and costume as well as the contribution in the progress of Greek women. From October 11-15, 2017 the group will participate in the 2nd Kalamata International Choir Competition & Festival and hopes to achieve once again a Golden Diploma as in the event’s kick-off in 2015.

The Lykeion Ton Hellinidon Kalamata Choir was founded in 1996 under the instruction of Vagelis Kotsou and has successfully participated in contests both in Greece and abroad. They also recorded several CDs and cooperated with George Tsagaris and the 3rd program of the National Radio. In 2015 the Choir won the 1st prize in the Antiphonic Festival organized by the Panipeirotic Confederation of Greece and a Golden Diploma in INTERKULTUR’s festival in Kalamata and declared in February 2017 by the Greek Ministry of Culture as the first traditional Choir. At the Kalamata International Choir Competition & Festival they want to showcase the subtleties of Greek culture to the audience by the means of Greek choral music.

More about the 2nd Kalamata International Choir Competition & Festival can be found here. Registration is still open until June 6.
