Components of festival and competition
1. Parade through Calella
The parade will take place on Wednesday, October 17 during the late afternoon. All choirs will meet in the city centre and march while singing through the city towards the “Fabrica Llobet”, the newly built event centre in Calella.
2. Opening ceremony
After the parade the participants will be greeted by Catalan artists and international choirs during the opening of an exciting programme.
3. Friendship concerts
Choirs have the possibility to present their programme to Callela’s guests and residents during “Open Air” performances at especially erected stages throughout the city.
4. Competitions / Competition venues
These will take place on Thursday, October 18 and Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20. The schedule can be found here.
The following competition venues will be available:
Sala Mozart – app. 500 seats (categories A, B and G)
Església de Santa Maria y Sant Nicolau – capacity of app. 500 persons (category S)
“Fabrica Llobet” – app. 1500 seats (categories F, P and J)
5. Trip to Barcelona
Full-time trips to Barcelona will be offered to choirs on days they are not participating in the competition.
6. Calella sings
Sunday afternoon all participating choirs will sing in Callela’s city centre. The aim is to transform the whole city into one giant concert hall.
7. Closing ceremony and awards ceremony
The emotional festival highlight will also take place in the “Fabrica Llobet”. On Saturday evening the Diplomas and Prizes will be awarded and all participants will receive their Festival Certificates.
8. Fiesta de la amistad – Paella y Sangría
The ultimate high point of the festival “Canta al mar 2012” will take place after the closing ceremony on Calella’s sandy beach. An enormous Paella, the Spanish national dish, will be prepared for all participants in a large event tent and Sangria will be served. The evening gently fades with communal singing accompanied by Catalan artists.
9. Participating actively in a mass
On Sunday, October 21 choirs are invited to a holy mass at noontime. They also have the possibility to participate in the mass with their own pieces of music.
